
NEW YORK — Former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort is calling for the president to be impeached and to be removed from office.
The retired Army lieutenant general is the latest high-profile Trump adviser to speak out against President Donald Trump’s policies and policies, and is calling on his supporters to join him in supporting a lawsuit to remove him from office, The New York Times reported Friday.
“If Trump can be removed, then so can he be removed for the crimes of treason,” Manafort said in a statement.
In his statement, Manafort said that he would also like Trump to be “removed from office for the sins of his presidency, and for any acts of treason or other unlawful acts committed by the President.”
Manafort is one of the most high-ranking Trump allies who has spoken out against the president.
Trump, Manafort, Trump’s former campaign chairman Kellyanne Conway and Trump campaign foreign policy adviser Carter Page are all facing federal charges stemming from alleged Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.
