Custom elevator interior lights are scheduled to arrive in the U.S. next month for the first time in a decade.
The lights, which are manufactured by Viano Inc., are intended to help owners and operators of high-end elevators stay on the highest floors of their buildings.
The company plans to offer the lights in 10 states and in the Caribbean and Asia.
The new lighting comes at a time when the number of elevators in the United States is on the rise and is projected to grow to nearly 40 million in 2020, up from about 17 million today.
The first-of-its-kind lighting was installed last year in New York City’s Financial District, which is also the home of the new luxury towers in Midtown Manhattan and Greenwich Village.
In the past year, more than 20 major high-rise projects were announced in New England and New York.
The company has also made a number of major investments in the elevator industry, including $20 million in the Boston-based Elevator Control Inc. last year and the $50 million deal to build the world’s tallest elevator in South Korea, according to the company.
